Yoga of Joy Workshops
Introduction to Yoga of Joy, Tibetan and Primordial Yoga
Yoga of Joy is a unique, dynamic and powerfully effective yoga system which connects us to universal energy. It integrates the physical with the spiritual, improves circulation of blood and subtle energy, purifies our meridian system and balances our Yin and Yang aspects. Through a concise and effective sequence of postures, breathwork, visualizations, intention, mantra and mudra, Yoga of Joy opens our hearts and central channel to directly elevate our consciousness.
"Discovered" by dakini Yuan Miao, during her spiritual awakening, Yoga of Joy combines ancient yogic disciplines from Tibet Vajrayana and primordial yoga into a nine-step tantric practice. Yuan Miao is a half-Tibetan, half-Chinese woman raised largely by her Tibetan grandmother, Yeshe Tsoumou, a spiritual master whose father was a Rinpoche in Nyingma lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. Estimates date the origins of primordial yoga back over 7,000 years.
Rather than glorify the "vase," Yoga of Joy connects us to what is inside the vase. Through this process, we release all concepts and rules, return to our Inner Nature and expand into joyful, creative, potentiated beings with greater capacity to benefit others.
In this Yoga of Joy workshop (suitable for all levels), learn and practice various warm-ups, healing mudras, Vajra Wind organ cleansing breath techniques and the first four steps of the 8-step form practice. Rediscover the childlike joy and spontaneity that resides within!
"YoJ is unlike any other yoga I've ever practiced, yet it is what I have always longed for. Something deeper than just asanas. The complete cyclic process of yoga, which is living and breathing it. This was taught to me in class and carries on in my life today. I really resonate with the way the postures and movements are taught, it is not as important to be in the correct position as it is to have the right intention. All is heart opening. All is compassion. From one drop of rain we return to the infinite ocean and we are one again. There is a sense of returning to your inner child with YOJ and it leaves me laughing, playing and in ultimate gratitude."

Retreats
Ojai Foundation | Spring
Celebrate Earth Day. Play and bloom in community.
This weekend or sometimes day retreat will be held in Spring to honor Earth Day.
In Spring, we celebrate life, Nature and community. It is naturally a more playful retreat than Fall. We free ourselves on 40 acres of magical, ceremonial Native American Chumash land and immerse ourselves in Yoga of Joy and Tibetan healing energy practices, yoga (Taoist Flow and Hatha), and meditation. To usher Earth Day in with reverence and to honor Nature's abundance and beauty, we practice karma yoga by restoring and rejuvenating the land.
Originally founded by reknowned Zen master, Joan Halifax, Ojai Foundation is a sustainable non-profit organization dedicated to permaculture education and conscious living. It is entirely solar-powered, and boasts a teepee, circular yoga/meditation room, lovingly handcrafted fire kivas, sweat lodge, labyrinth, animal teachings and many surprises...

Mt. Baldy Zen Center | Fall
Retreat from modern life.
Live simply and connect to your Inner Nature.
Early morning Rinzai Zen meditation and karma yoga with the resident monks, organic, macrobiotic foods in the 3-bowl Zen tradition, Yoga of Joy and Tibetan healing energy practices, Taoist Flow and Hatha yoga, spontaneous, somatic movement practices, and immersion in drala (mountain) energy.
This "rustic" weekend retreat celebrates the quiet of Fall and essential living: Practice, Nature, Nourishment. This is an introspective weekend to "clean our minds," live joyfully and bring peace to the world from the inside out. On some retreats, we cook together just like the monks and learn about nutrition along the way.
The majority of this retreat will be spent in “thunderous” silence.
